After 6 months I finally have a vendor meet set up for this Mon. One problem I ran into is using AT&T as the local provider, they in turn generate a W/O with SBC (Ameritech). Original Problem: 1 CO line is not always ringing on the premises. I checked on-hook voltage, talk voltage, loop current and ring voltage. I installed a single SLT off the DMarc. I instructed my customer to let me know if they ever hear the SLT ring and not the system phones. This was reported as happening a few times so I switched CO ports on the system.same problem on the same CO. I set up shop at the netpop and monitored the ring voltage for over 2 hours and generated numerous calls . I did see the problem! Ringing to the calling party but no ringing at the premises. I also found out that the SLT I used will ring at around 65 or 70 VAC probably not enough to trip the threshhold of the system as I know they claim they need a Min. of 90 VAC. This could account for why the SLT rang a few times and not the system. I am convinced the problem is in the LEN of the provider. My question, (finally) is can the local provider find this easily with a TIMS or some other piece of test equipment or how can I convince them ? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. WaM

Get with the local provider and relay you findings,If you can find it then so should they, at that point they should be able to fix there side of it.

It is a Telco problem the way you describe it. Have Telco check and see if the line goes thru a slick. This is a common problem when they do. They just need to adjust the levels or the have a bad ring generator. Good Luck!!
If all else fails, use a BFH.

AT&T uses a SLC 2000 or a Reltec at a colocate cage at the CO to provide dialtone to thier customers. I used to troubleshoot the DLC equipment for them. The ring gen's are Lanier products that feed the whole DLC (696) lines. If Ameritech is copper feed to the dmarc and not facilitated with pair-gain/SLC, then the ring gen is AT&T's. Request that the lowspeed cards get repaced at the Cage equipment and if that does not help, email me the phone number and circuit ID's. I can get you in touch with a repair manager.

To all who replied: THANK YOU, THANK YOU AND THANK YOU. The meet went well. Found out the only "facalities" that Ameritech is responsable for is the cable from the CO to the D-Marc with the exception of a small amount of protection at the CO. Everything else is AT&Ts. gkar, yes, it is copper all the way and the Tech. checked everything he could. He is recammending AT&T change their card. What do you meen direct dial or ported? It's not a DID or anything. In fact this line is not even in a hunt or roll over. Maybe now AT&T will change the card as I understand Ameritech bills them when there is no trouble found. I guess now all we can do is wait and see. gkar, I have your e and the Ckt. ID. Lets see if they change it on there own. I'll keep you posted and your welcome to e me at any time. Thanks again. WaM
