So by putting TX and RX on separate 4 Pair cables, it is conceivable to get up 4 T1 lines up to our suite on only 2 cables with little interference.

True. Shielded cable would be better though. If you run 2 unshielded cables side by side, you might pick up interference between the transmits & the receives.

Linux Tech, sorry for the slight detour, in the past, I've heard Verizon people refer to a RJ68 as a "dumb jack" anybody heard of such a thing?

Using STP cable will be a definite then.

Is there diagram for breaking out a group of T1s to separate cables?

All I am finding is just the jack pin out. RJ48X
I also see that those jack pin outs have Tip and Ring reversed from the normal USOC Jacks.

So if I wanted to make this capable of 2 additional T1s With a total of 4, could I put all 4 T1's on these 2 cables going up to the suite?
Again, the TXs on one cable and RXs on another, and using Shielded cable?

There is something called RJ48M (m=multiline) connector and cable used for multiple T1 drops. I know Lucent (Avaya) used to make them, among others. It's not the cheapest, as far as cables go.

The polarity of tip and ring makes no difference. All that matters is that you have pins 1,2, 4 and 5 wired properly. If you are interested in purchasing some of these multi-circuit blocks, please send me a PM and we can discuss this further.

I extend T1s in malls all the time. Telco drops them at the mpoe and we take it from there. I try to run a dedicated line for each one but if customer wants to use the house pairs then we try it out. If it works then we leave them, other wise we will install single pair T1 extenders that will push it to 3.5 miles or run a cable, this all depends on length. If running a cable will execced the cost of the extenders or length, we go with extenders as they run just under 1k. And have never had an issue with this. Label and mark all pairs used with customer info for referance later and for others coming in and doing service work for other customers later.

Just to clarify (or muddle) things further, the RJ48M cable is a 25pair cable with a D50 clamshell connector on one end (what people around here refer to as an "amphenol") and a harmonica of 8 RJ48C jacks on the other end. All pairs are individually shielded. Pairs 1+2 on the D50 go to TX/RX pairs on port 1 of the harmonica, pairs 3+4 go to port 2 of the harmonica, etc etc

EDIT: I was a bit wrong on the wiring. The above applies to the RJ48H connector (D50 to 12 RJ48C). In the RJ48M, the D50 end skips one pair per harmonica port. So the wiring for RJ48M would be:

pair 1+2 = port1
skip
pair 4+5 = port2
skip

etc etc

Jeff, I'm pretty sure that if you google for RJ48M cable or jack you'll find something. Though most dealers don't know what it is, you'll have to explain unless you have the exact part#.

See the wiring in the following document, on page 18 of the document: BellSouth DS1 reference
