We have a PRI in service frpm Verizon and cannot seem to get faxes to go through on a consistant basis. it seems like every third or fourth fax does not go through and large multiple page faxes (like 15 pages) gets about half way through and the fax machine itself gives an error message and terminates the call.

This is happening at several different faxes and at three of our seperate campuses.

Of course Verizon says "Duh--I Dunno!!"

Any help would be appreciated.

unfortunatly, that is true...but, it's not with just ESI, I've seen it happen with other switchs as well, depending on your configuration, you may have better luck with the A12 card, it is All Analog ports.

Ain't that the truth. This happens on any brand of system.

This is indicative of excessive slips on the PRI, as in a local timing issue. Is your system set to receive clock from the PRI's T-1 span? If not, it needs to be. If the system's clock isn't in sync with the circuit's clock, you are going to have thousands of slips. These aren't noticed on voice calls, but they destroy analog data transmission.

It can also happen if the carrier is compressing the voice too much. They should be able to uncompress the channel for that incoming and outgoing CID.

We have confirmed tha the clocking issue is not the problem--back to the drawing baord with ESI.

Does anyone ever notice that the ESI system does not give the caller a busy if a fax is in use with a transmission.

Scenario: I try am sending a fax to someone and then someone else trys to fax me they are NOT given a busy only a recording.

Thsi may be an issue--any ideas

As always thanks!!

You can / need to set the CFWD Busy / No Answer to disconnect.

Also, the port should be configured as a Fax, not as an Ext. I believe the default configuration for a Fax port already has the CF set to disconnect. If it's going to a recording, the port is likely configured as an Ext.

change the fax number DID to a Pilot number, then only allow 1 channel, it will then get a busy, also, change the phone type to modem, and the fwd to disconnect
