Does anyone know if the hard drive in a VW16 can be copied by simply plugging a second one in like the original Voiceworks system did?

Don't think so, but I have one on my shelf.

I have the replacement drives on the shelf, but thanks for the offer Rick. I'm getting concerned because I still have dozens of these systems out there that are running perfectly. Once one fails, I'm hoping that it doesn't start a chain reaction.

I wasn't aware of any ESI drive that wasn't proprietary. Was the old VW (pre-VW16) an off-the-shelf drive? Justin

Oh no. They are definitely proprietary drives. What was nice is that you only needed to stock one drive that could be added as a second one to increase storage capacity. Starting up a system with two drives connected would automatically copy the contents from one to another, making replacements (very rare) a breeze.
That is what I was hoping to do with the VW16, but apparently it wasn't designed to do this. Fortunately, manual programming didn't take but a few minutes anyway so all is good.

Wow, I didn't know the original VW worked that way. What a concept! ESI should have kept that concept all through their various systems. Until they moved to flash memory, that always seemed to be a bit of a weak point.

Justin, I am a huge fan of the original Voiceworks systems, in fact I have one on my Panasonic system at home. They are so reliable. I still have dozens of them out there alive and kicking. I will admit that I've had to switch a couple of VW16s over to flash drives. I can assure you that if they were still being made, I'd still be selling them.
