Hi I have an office with an Iwatsu Omega 4 phone system. They moved around some desks and needed a longer cable to go from the wall jack to the phone and they purchased a rj-11 cable and it will not power up the phone. I did read something on here about a proprietary cable on some of these systems. Would that be the case here? If so where could I purchase a 25' cable?

A six-conductor line cord is required. An RJ11 cable will only have two conductors. Many retail stores are now carrying six-conductor cords now. I've seen them at Target, Radio Shack and Home Depot.

These older systems get pretty touchy when you use long line cords- they pick up all kinds of interference, especially from pc monitors. If you end up with phones that squeak/honk/squonk when you access an outside line, seem to have low volume or just act crazy, you may need to use twisted pair line cords, similar to CAT5 patch cables, only with 6 conductors instead of 8 (the preferred fix in this case is to have the jack moved closer to the phone). Things may, however, work just fine with the long cords, and for a couple of bucks a pop, it's worth a try.

Sometimes the thoughts in my head get so bored, they go for a stroll through my mouth. This is rarely a good thing.
