Hi, I'm new to the forums as a user, but have searched for answers here more than a few times in the past.

Here's my situation: We have a new Iwatsu ECS Cabinet running ECS 5.01 (R.01) and it has, among other cards, an 8SubM-3 card with the 8 port expansion daughter card on it, so we should be getting 16 analog ports out of this pairing. This card replaced a regular 8 port analog card and for the first 8 pairs punched down, we have the same service we did before, but now, the last 8 ports just go immediately to a fast busy when dialing them. I successfully added the additional 8 ports in the system, but I was looking through the card class and when i click on the SubX card, I see that on #29 of the card list, it's set as a SUBX, S, All 8. Even though I have setup the additional 8 ports in the system, I'm pretty sure I have to set #30 to something to recognize the daughter board and the next 8 ports.

The questions are, what should #29 and #30 be set to and with what parameters and do i need to restart the whole system for it to be recognized or can i busy it out, remove it and then plug it back in and unbusy it?

My dealer/rep/tech is tied up for several days on an install and is effectively unavailable. I'm hoping someone here can help. Anyway, hi to everyone and thanks in advance!

When you installed the daughterboard, the system should have seen it and populated the ports list- if you removed the previous card in programming and reset the system prior to installing the new card. If you made any configuration changes in the Hardware area a system reset must be made to apply those changes.

Try a system reset, then a new download of the Hardware area to see if card 30 has populated.

Thanks, JBean. I'm doing a reset right now. I'll let you know if it populated it correctly or not.

Well, I reset the system and downloaded the fresh DB and it does indeed show all 16 ports now. Unfortunately, when I dial any of the new 8 extensions, I still get a fast busy. I have a modem hooked up to one with the volume up all the way as a testing device because my set is at another job. when i go OH i get bupkus and when I dial what should be the extension for it or any of the other 8, they're all fast busy. Is there a dip switch or other setting on the mother or daughter board I should know about and set appropriately?

also, I know the MB switch is not on, on the motherboard and when I do go OH on the modem I see a red led light up on the MOBO, but still no dialtone.

and furthermore, lol, when i dial any of the top 8, you can hear the card switching and clicking. Even though the red light comes on when dialing one of the lower 8, there's never any noise coming from the card. hope that helps to track down what might be missing. thanks, again!

This might be silly, but do you have the extension numbers programmed in class 10? Can you use a test set and get icm tone on the last eight ports of the card? If you do get icm tone dial a display phone and see what port number comes up on the screen.

On the expansion board there is a highway switch setting, should be in the off position. Also this card does not skip pairs like previous cards, all 16 will be from WH/BL thru YL/BL pairs on the block...the cards section of the programmer should show 2 SUBX cards listed, and below in the ports section it should show all 16 ports defined. Confirm numbering in 10.02 for the ports, confirm that they are not in a different ICM group as other extensions (10.50)
Hope this helps..

This may seem like a silly question, but have you double-checked that the daughter card (the 8ESUB-S card) is plugged in good and snug on the main 8SUB-S card? I've had twice that I thought the daughter card was plugged in good and it was off by a little bit on one side so the system wasn't seeing the additional ports as really being there.

In the future, when adding cards to the ECS, you can busy the card out with the make busy switch, plug it into an empty slot and allow the make busy light to start flashing. When you take it out of make busy mode, you can get a download and the ECS will have automatically configured itself for the ports on the card (additional ports if you plug a larger card into a used slot) and you can get a download and make whatever changes are needed at that point.

The upside is that if there is something physically wrong with the card (install or otherwise) then the ECS won't auto-program and you'll know something's up once you get into the system with the programmer. smile
