In NJ if you dial 958 on your buttset on a Verizon Landline you get the computer voice give you the number.

Does anybody know what code you dial to do the same thing on a Sprint Landline?

You can call your cell or a lot of companies like MCI and others announce your number when you call for trouble or service. I'm really surprise you can still use any of the old local numbers, most are now password protected or changed frequently.

90 % of Jersey is Verizon local loop & has been 958 for as long as I can remember, there are a couple of sprint areas, would be nice to know as calling your cell is not practical when trying to find one dial tone among a 200 pair demark..........

We can't give that kind of information out here in the public forums, even if there was an answer to your question. I'd suggest that you call MCI's main number as Bill has suggested. Upon receipt of your call, their automated system will announce the number you are calling from. Not as fast as ANAC, but this is just a sign of the times. The telcos are not in business to give what they consider to be free information. Sorry.

I know what you are mentioning: Far northwestern areas of NJ, formerly Contel and United properties and now Sprint/Embarq. Ten exchanges that are problem children compared to the rest of the state. 958 was only a Bell code. I feel your pain.

We're lucky here in the U.K. in that all BT landlines now have exactly the same test numbers right across the country (of course, we're a small country, only about the same physical area as Oregon).

The long-standing SALT (Subscriber Automated Line Test) number will read back the number and perform a basic test for battery, earth, insulation etc. on the line & ring back.

Unfortunately, the newer test system which allows for the remote testing of any BT line from anywhere in the country and has a whole load more options for DSL tests has now been password protected.
