Hello, I am new to posting on the Bulletin Board, but have read a lot of the postings and believe someone might be able to help with this problem.

I recently reactivated a DSC PC3000 that was originally connnected to RJ31X via POTS. The alarm system works fine locally. Now the phone service is provided by VoIP via ACN Digital Phone Service. ACN could not offer Tech Support in this area. The PC3000 does not seem to be communicating over the provided service. DSC Tech Support advised that I should be able to wire it from the Modem (Line In) as if it was from Pots to the RJ31X. I did this and it still does not send anything out. The Central Station did not receive any activity at the receivers, even after attempting several formats and BPS speeds.

I activated the alarm and it did not seize the line via the RJ31X. The phone still worked while the alarm was going off.

Any suggestions? What is the best way to check that the panel is dialing out to ensure its not a panel problem?

Welcome to the board Protect2Core!

There could be a number of programming issues that will affect whether the PC3000 communicates using the VoIP modem. It will work, but depending on the modem, a few changes may be needed.

However, first we have to get the alarm to go off hook and seize the line. The system should be wired using the RJ31X no different than if it were using a POTS line. Make sure T&R, which is the green & red from the telco cord goes to the modem and T1&R1, which is brown & gray goes to the house phones.

If this is wired correct and you still don't have seizure when in alarm, check to make sure the communicator is turned on. Section 18, zone light 1 should be off. Also, a phone number for the monitoring station has to be programmed into section 01 or it won't go off hook either.

Get that part working first and then I can give you a few tips to get it working with the modem. For example, a PC3000 by default is programmed as pulse dialing and you will need to change that to DTMF (section 18 - zone light 4 on).

Twisted, Thanks for the quick reply. The T&R are from the modem and the T1 and R1 feed the house and Phone #'s and Acct# are programmed in Sec 1-4. It is possible that I didn't have the communicator on in Section 18. I will double check this and change to DTMF. Thanks again, and I'll let you know if that does it.

One more thing I just thought of was make sure the "delay before transmission" in section 52 is set to "00" - no delay.

Also, have you programmed any reporting codes for each zone?
Section 05 for zones 1-8 and 06 for zones 9-16.

And remember the "0" (zero) versus the HEX A.
This stuff is explained in detail on pages 14 & 15 in the installers manual.
Hope this helps ya. [Linked Image from ganjataz.com]

Bobby, it won't matter if he has any reporting codes or even an account code programmed in for it to go off line and do a line seizure. All it needs is the stuff I mentioned above. First we have to get it to do that and the rest is secondary.

Thanks for your assistance. I appologize for the delay in getting back with both of you.

"make sure the communicator is turned on. Section 18, zone light 1 should be off. Also, a phone number for the monitoring station has to be programmed into section 01 or it won't go off hook either."

That seemed to take care of it; however, after the alarm goes off and sends calls the central station, it does not want to reset. I have to power down and restart to get it to "release" the communicator.

Well that could be a few different things. What is the monitoring station getting? Are they receiving everything properly?

This is when you need proper account codes and zone reporting codes. It will dial, do a handshake with the receiver, transmit the account code and first reporting code, and receive a "kiss" signal from the receiver (acknowledgement tone). If you don't have any of that programmed in, I can see it getting hung up.

This is when the DTS dialer comes in handy but even if you hook up you buttset and listen to it, it will tell you a lot.
