I'm looking for some kind of a plastic grommet that works well with a drop ceiling. Size around 1" diameter, need a good clean finish to take CCTV wire through it.

A 1-1/2" chase nipple from an electrical supply or home center will work well for this if running multiple cables. Use a 2" x 1-1/2" reducing washer and a locknut above the ceiling to secure it. You really can't use a nipple much smaller because the thread length isn't enough to reach through the tile.

There are also plastic push-in bushings for this purpose when running single or dual cables. They are friction-fit, so they might not hold well in the tile. You can just use silicone caulk to hold it in place. Those things are available just about anywhere, even Radio Shack.

Although you may confuse the R/S guy, unless you ask for a 'through-the-wall bushing', as opposed to a 'ceiling' bushing.

Those Arlington fittings look pretty nifty. I'll see if sparkie supply has them. They're already white so they'll match the tile to boot!

I expected to use some type of silicone either way.

Jeff, those things are pretty cool, thanks for the tip. I like Arlington, they have a lot of good stuff. I was a little surprised, though, that the ad for those didn't mention anything like "not to used on walls that are required to be fire rated" or some such disclaimer. Of course, most wall penetrations I see in the real world look like blowouts, fire rated wall or not.

I found something at Lowes called a PVC box connector, looks like these will work after some spray paint.

Sparkie supply didn't carry the Arlington ones unless I wanted a case qty.
