Just installed a new valcom paging system in a school. We are using a V-2924A with a V-2925 Expansion unit. All wiring is new and each speaker in wired individually except for the common areas (Hallways, lunchroom, etc.) Pages work fine but we get a constant hum on the speakers. It appears to be a power problem-if we disconnect the talk pair the hum persists. Anyone have any ideas?

Are you using a common power supply or separate transformers? It sounds like you have a ground loop being caused by to many grounds.

If it was built after 1980 don't expect it to work right.

We are using a single VP-4124 at one site and 2 VP4124 at another site and we have identical problems at each.

Miswired? How high do you have the volume turned up?

Possibly the common wire for the speech path is bare and touching building steel or conduit. Try disconnecting all speaker runs at the Valcom and reconnecting one at a time. This will backfeed to ALL speech paths! And please don't tell us you used 'signal cable', doorbell wire, or some other type of non-telco wire, rather than cat3.

I'd call Valcom and see what they have to recommend. I was at a training seminar today and their support is really top notch.

All runs are Cat 3 and the volume is turned almost all the way down.

Doesn't the 2924 have a BGM function? If you are not using BGM, turn it off AND short the the input.
