My cousin and her unemployed husband got behind in a few bills, and the three VZ lines in their house were shut off for non-payment.

There's the main line, her husband's line that he uses for his small construction business (when there's business), and the teenage daughter's line.

They got some money together and paid the VZ bill yesterday. The lines were reactivated early this morning.

The numbers, once reactivated, appeared on the wrong phones, so she called VZ repair to complain. The repair clerk told her that VZ does not come out to fix things like that, because the customer can just open the NID and rearrange the wires themselves. If she wants VZ to come out and straighten the numbers out, there will be a $55 charge.

I sent my assistant over there this evening, as I was too beat from a long day, and he was able to rewire the NID so that everything is OK now. Naturally, we refused to accept any payment for such a trivial job, especially for a relative.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why the VZ company would not just re-assign the office equipment electronically? Why they refused to help? Why they claim that the trouble should be corrected by the customer? It seems absurd to me. But of course I've only been doing this line of work for 42 years.

That was pretty horse crap of Verizon in my opinion. Also if the NID were labeled, as it's suppose to be, the labels are now incorrect. So if your cousin wanted to be a pain in their side she could report that the phone numbers aren't as Verizon labeled them and needs them to correct it. They can't just drop 3 lines at an NID as the average person doesn't know how to identify them. Might be time for a complaint to the utility commission.

The New York State Public Service Commission is in bed with Verizon. It is staffed with old phone execs.

The Union Hall doesn't care that the jobs are being given away.

Ivan Seidenberg, the $15,000,000 per year CEO, has publicly announced that he is not interested in supporting the wire line business anymore.

There doesn't seem to be a way out of this mess. It's very frustrating.

We should thank them for telling the customer that they first need to call their vendor and if we find a problem at the demarc only then will they roll a truck.

Verizon wanting out of the wire-line business is probably one of the worst kept secrets out there.

The decision to exit several markets (Maine, New Hampshire & Vermont for example) is a clear example of how Ivan Seidenberg wants to reposition the company to serve only areas that would be profitable for FiOS and give the company a fast ROI.

Of course, Verizon is still being selective in places that they offer FiOS and, even in those towns & cities, they cherry-pick the streets & areas where fibers will go. It is not uncommon for Verizon to offer FiOS along 1 block, but treat another block as a "dark zone".

Now THERE's a big surprise! smile In KS and Mo, the same is true, although it's also staffed by electrical and NG X-execs, as well.

I would make a formal PSC compliant anyway.
If you want to push ask for a hearing.

My .02 cents

Not sure if PSC would help if Verizon did deliver the lines, of course a helpful tech would have put the numbers back in original order if they had been marked in the first place. In Pa. Verizon responds to Public Utilities Commission pretty fast, but only if problems have been tracked. I have 1 customer who has outages so often that I no longer need to go out. The customer calls PUC and they "fix" problem but will not run new cable into complex which is on long length of road that has bad 100 pair cable. We are trying to have PUC force Verizon to replace cable but as noted FIOS is King in this area ,but of course its not in my customers area nor is Comcast.
