Hey guys I am going to be installing a PRI into an existing SBX 12x48 w/VM. The site is already using 12 lines. I want to make the install go as smooth as I can so when we do the cutover I know it will just start working. We already requested a "test and turn-up". I downloaded the howto from VConnect. Does anyone have any tips on adding the card to an existing system. Also does anyone have any tips on setting up the PRI? What buttons do I need to program on the phones so people can make calls out? I guess I will program Parks on the phones. Also I guess there is no way to program the system offline in any way and upload the database to the system the day of the cut?

The only way to program offline is to use a second system. The offline program is not up to date for 3.5.

I don't know what the config of your present system is but if you have no voip ports working with it you will not have to do much programming if any to get the pri to come up, after you program the logical config.
The system will add the PRI trunks to the analog ones that are still active. So if you have 12 active analogs the PRI trunks are going to start at 13. Make sure enblock send is turned on for any Pri trunks in ISDN attributes 1. The system can have 36 trunks total. You will need loop keys on the phones to call out. Park buttons are good, get rid of any line appearances, they are not going to help much. Good Luck

I figured the loop buttons where the way to go, do you suggest 2 loop buttons or more? Do calls ring in on the loop buttons or are they just for outgoing calls? I am used to avaya IP office with call appearances and those are for any call to come in or out on....So I would normally use 3 but I am not sure how the vertical act.
We also have a pri in the office with the same carrier in our office that I can test with, we can forward our calls to our sip trunks and play with it.

Loop keys are for both in and out with dial 9 access I normally use two but you will need more if you want to make a large conf call. If any did number rings on more than one phone at one time you have to send the call to a station hunt group.

I'd replace the current line keys with appearances for the first 12 PRI channels. A couple of loop keys will be good for handling the outgoing calls. By having the PRI channels appear as CO lines, the customer won't have much ramp-up time to deal with. They will be able to answer and hold calls just like they're used to.

Ed, that will work if the pri is only using the first 12 channels for inbound.

Oh, I know, but I figured that by having a couple of loops, they would be able to overcome situations where their inbound traffic exceeds the outbound. I generally assume that most businesses have an equal amount of inbound and outbound traffic.

I did the test and turn up today of the PRI, all went smooth. I followed the PDF on vconnect. Only difference is that I forgot to turn enblock on. Not sure what that does but it wasnt in the PDF. I remember reading it on here but forgot. Tech support quickly had me turn it on, but they also said to always have the ports be 23 and then change the CO group to 25 on all unused channels. Which makes sense but I wish they would update their PDF. If they would have I wouldnt have needed to call them. Well maybe...they also told me how to outpulse the different caller ID of DID's if you wanted to, which will help out!

Enblock has to be on in order to dial out on the PRI.

Seems like a pretty important feature that should be in the pdf lol! It is now in my "cheat sheet" btw I added the card from the PCAdmin tool and did not add it from the phone, and it worked perfectly.
