Peanut butter they ignore. Cereals and grains they ignore. Sunflower seeds they pick out of the trap without tripping it.
I had a professional trapper out here a while back. He used a secret mix of peanut butter, crushed Hydrox cookie wafers, and some other ingredient[s] which I could not get him to reveal. Whatever it was, it worked - they went for it every time.
These are the "southern" variety of flying squirrels, if that matters at all.
Any and all suggestions welcomed.
Thanks in advance, Jim

Years ago I had a squirrel get into the house. Had a hell of a time getting rid of it. Tried all the above mentioned, then I baited the live trap with items that my wife was cooking with: chocolate chips, marshmallows, nuts (I forget which ones, but assume walnuts). Worked like a charm.

Had a squirrel get in the house and hide behind the bed headboard. Took the vacuum hose and slid it next to squirrel then turned it on. The squirrel stuck to the end of hose with its feet running full tilt. I stuck the hose out the window and shut it off that squirrel hit the ground running.
They love sunflower seeds

Thank you to everyone who responded. I am in the process of trying ALL of the suggestions mentioned above.
Note to everyone else: feel free to add more suggestions, any ideas are welcome. And good squirrel stories are always entertaining!
