Well, after resistance to SmartPhones, I sucked it up and got an HTC two months ago. Black Friday I traded it for an iPhone.
I don't expect to be looking back, but I might trade up again for an iPhone 5. (I only got a 4). I already own an iPod, so it was a very easy decision to go Apple as all my apps transferred and I was familiar with iOS.
I figure it cost me about $100.
I tell you, I'll probably NEVER shop at a Verizon Wireless store again. I went to a preferred agent store and they were much nicer. I hate snotty salespeople at the Vz store. They act like the're doing you a favor to wait on you. The guys at the agent store were super.

I just upgraded to an iPhone 4 (for free) as well as part of the automatic upgrade of my account. Never had a bit of trouble with anyone on the phone or at a Verizon-owned store in my 20 years of doing business with them.
Learning how to use this thing is another issue. From what I'm finding, it is simply a box that will do anything that you want it to do, based upon the application that you install. Just the fact that you can plug a card reader into the headphone jack confirms this. I'm not 100% sold on this thing yet, but I get the impression that I can smack it into doing whatever I tell it to.
The best part for me is that nearly everyone I know has a variation of the iPhone, so the learning curve has been fairly easy. So easy that I'm already teaching others how to use theirs.
Oh, and NO. I'd never have admitted to this had I not been forced into converting to it. I've always been perfectly happy with my dumb phones that permitted me to tether them to a laptop as a modem. I should stop there.....

I carry the 5 with an otter box defender case. I highly recommend that case if you're looking for something reasonable - I believe there is a model for all versions.

The Otter Box is great, but the belt clip is a piece of crap that constantly pops off. After getting tired of looking for my phone (under the car seat, behind server racks, in puddles, etc, etc, etc), I bought a leather case for the Otter Box.

I've never had a problem when shopping @ Verizon Wireless stores either. I have an HTC Incredible 2 (3G) and it works well for me.

I found I can get a lot better deal from Verizon online than the store .
they really want to drive traffic online (lower overhead
I'm not a I phone fan , I prefer Droid , really like my Samsung galaxy nexus (except for battery life that is )

After getting tired of looking for my phone (under the car seat, behind server racks, in puddles, etc, etc, etc), I bought a leather case for the Otter Box. I had this happen to me when I had the old 3G version...but it was downpouring outside and the phone dropped into a 2" puddle next to a storm grate. Took it home, out of the case, and saw only minute amounts of moisture. Immediately powered off the phone, put it in a rice bath and let it sit for a day. No ill effects seemed to have stemmed from that day...that single occurrece more than paid for the cost of the Otter Box itself. I even took it to an Apple store a few months later under a different issue and the "strip" didn't indicate any water damage. I'll probably be looking at the iPhone5 in March.

I just got my wife the Samsung Galaxy Note II. With the large screen, reading and typing on the keypad has never been easier. It might be too big for me to carry on the job though. My HTC smart phone is encased in both a silicon sleeve and a leather case (I stretched it to enable me to do both). What is terrible though is seeing how much cell phone accessories cost. I now buy direct from DX.com in China. Buying locally only gets the same China products anyway and DX.com has more choices.
