Quick question: Is it possible to program a default number into a call forwarding button? (Either on the handset or in DB Studio...)

Older system: Inter-Tel 5000, using a model 8560 phone.

I can set up a button to Forward All or If No Answer/Busy easily enough but it still prompts for a destination (outside phone) and then the number. It'd be great if I could one-button forward to my cell without having to type the number in every time, but I don't see such option in the admin guide.

I assume this is not supported since I can't find reference to it anywhere in the docs, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask...

What an amazing wealth of information here. I wish I'd found this site years ago. While searching through the threads I've already ran across a half-dozen clever little tricks and workarounds for small annoyances that have bothered us for years. I don't want to necro months/years old threads just to say "thanks" to individual contributors so I'll do it here instead.

So, thank you. smile

You can program one of your station speed dial bins to be the number you want to forward to. When programming the number put a 355 (Forward All Calls Feature Code by default) 8 and then the number.

You can then program an available key to be the particular bin that you programmed.

At that point, you will be able to just hit that key and walk away.

Note: The screen may take a minute to indicate the forward is in place once hitting the key but a single press will do the trick.

Ah... clever. Got it. Thank you!

Not working yet, but I'm close. I've got the key programmed. Now it's hitting me with the "use spcl key for feature codes" error.

I can just turn that off globally on the phone system, and that should get it working... but I don't want to do that if I don't have to. Staff being able to set phone features just by typo'ing an extension worries me. (They somehow manage to do it often enough even with the special key required... crazy )

So, is there a character that can be used to pass the ∞ in the number, or am I going to need to just go into the system and disable it?

Thanks again!

I don't know of a way to put the SPCL key in the dial string. It seems that I've tried unsuccessfully in the past. You will probably have to disable it globally as you mentioned if you want it to work.

In saying that, there are some other real sharp techs that check in here that may know a way to do it.

You can’t disable the Special Key requirement with the dial string.

You could create and forward a phantom, and use a system forward path to route calls in DND. That would be keeping with the one-push-of-a-button theme.
