The IVX500 had about 4 different versions so you are going to need to find out. On the back of the IVX give me a part number and I can tell you what version it is. The versions were, 1.05, 3.0, 3.1, and 3.101 You need the correct software version to program the specific version of IVX.
The mod tap on the back is probably either the connector for a modem (remote programming) or its half of the programming cable that you need, meaning you neeed the other half for your serial port.
Let me do some digging in my Inter-Hell I mean Inter-Tel files and I will give you the pinouts to make a cable. Its been about 5 years since I touched a IVX500. I dont recall if a serial cable will work for programming because the one I used was one that I made.

Part Number: IVX500 693 3001
Mod Tap: Does appear to be for Remote Programming and Im guessing be cause of no serial input and has an RJ-11 plug.
Programming cable: Thanks guess I could make one if you got the pinouts but would consider buying one as well if you knew where I might cvould buy one.
Thanks alot. I will stand by.

I will look up that part number later today and get back to you on that, I don't have that info handy right know.
Does the alarm give you an alarm number or does it just say Major Alarm? In any case to clear it go to station 100 or port 1.1 and press the SPCL button followed by 010 or 019. One those codes is Night mode and the other is Clear Alarm, can't remember off the top of my head but try both.

Its a major. At first it was minor and I cleared it with the SPCL 019 key as you stated. The LED on the memory card is not lit and I suspect its the problem. The CPU green LED is lit steady. laptop connection works fine.
Thanks RCA for hanging with me. I use to live in SD in 1985-1988.

You should only have a green light lit on the CPU, that's normal operation. If you have any other red lights on after you have cleared the alarm then the database could be at default. If that's the case, just make a database change like setting the Date/Time and putting a name on a phone and the remaining light might go out. Just a suggestion.
What LED, are crrently lit?

green CPU LED is lit steady.] First red LED is lit steady. second red LED is out.
The memory daughter board has an LED but isnt lit
I have a major alarm and cant clear.
Should the LED on the memory board be lit?

Cant find that part number, that might be a kit part number.
Only the top green LED should be lit. The middle red LED is if there are alarms, the bottom LED is if there is a database problem like a default database. The LED thats on the MEM board is when the back up battery strap is set to off or missing, it lights.
For the remaining Major alarm, down load the error log and see what it says or turn the system off and remove all the CO and station cards, maybe you have a bad card.
Oh and stand by on the pinout, im still looking.

Ok. Solved all the alarm issues. It was an ID-TEN-T error. Many know what kind of error that is. Im over it so I will move on.
The battery strap on the mem card is in the on position. The LED is not lit on the mem card.
Should I assume that the battery (cap) is bad? It does have a date of 04-90. Pretty safe to assume I guess. What do you think? (No voltage between test points on memory card.)
The voicemail is a 4port AC MODEL IVX500. I found this on it. "GNP526506"
Ive been moving around the programming some and it looks straight forward.
The software to prog the vm and the cable to connect between my laptop and the voicmeial are needed at this point. Anyone have a manual on the ivx500? Perhaps in PDF? Thanks

When you tested the battery did you press the test button above the led?
Ill do some more checking on that part number later tonight, the old lady has me doing chores today.
Ill send you an email on where to get the manual in pdf later tonight also.
