Hello,

I recently took over the responsibility of the phone system in our office. We are moving some people around and want to keep their same extension after they move to a different area of the office. I looked through the manual and found "Station Relocation" but I get stuck after entering the phone into Relocation Mode.

1. In the next step it says hit speaker
2. Dial the Station Relocation Access Code (default: not assigned)
3. Dial the extension number of the distant Multiline Terminal (i.e. the new Multiline Terminal).
4. Enter the telephone password of the distant Multiline Terminal (same password set for Station Lockout).
5. Press Speaker. The Multiline Terminal is relocated.

What is the Station Relocation Access Code? If it is not assigned how do I skip that step since if I go to step 3 it just calls the extension where it currently is?

What is the telephone password?

Thank you,

Matt Giandalia

Most installers turn this off because it gets activated accidentally and the client will have no idea how to correct what they've done.

By default there is no access code assign for the station relocation feature, this and the password has to be setup by a certified NEC tech

Your best bet, Matt, is to find a certified NEC tech to relocate this set. The company that set it up originally will probably do this for a small hourly fee, and it should not take more than one hour.

That tech would also be able to relocate the set by physical means, if set relocation were unavailable on your system. If you attempt it yourself I can almost certainly guarantee that you will cause a bigger problem, for which you will then need to call a certified NEC tech. Why not cut to the chase now?

Thank you all for your help. I was able to verify that the relocation code had not been set up.

I was able to locate the wiring panel for the phones and trace the lines using a tone generator and an amplifier probe. Then I simply moved the lines from their old location to the one with the proper extension and attached them with the punch down tool.

Way easier.

Yes, I agree. I usually change jumpers instead of using a relocate code. That way the ports/extensions don't get jumbled.

You can also press FEATURE then 4 to have the telephone tell you what port it is on the PBX. Save yourself from doing the toner dance (as long as the pbx block is properly labeled).

Yeah the person before me was not very organized and I found that a lot of his labels on the PBX were no longer correct
