Good Morning, all. I admit that I often sound like a pessimist, so here is a true story that shows that all is not bad with the world, after all.
Last week, I stopped at my local bank branch to make a deposit. Being a very lazy man, I went to the drive through. This is the kind where there is a little drawer that pops right out of the side of the building, not the pneumatic tube contraption. I should mention now that there was a nasty thunderstorm brewing up at the time.
I got some cash back from my deposit. Not a huge amount, but enough for two tanks of gas, some groceries, and the next week's lunch tab. More than you would want to throw away.
The girl at the drive through window put the envelope containing my cash and deposit receipt in the drawer and swung it open. At that moment, a 60 mph wind gust turned the drive through lane into a wind tunnel, and the envelope was sucked into the vortex in a scene reminiscent of Dorothy and Toto.
By the time I got out of my truck, it was gone. Probably in the next county by then, the wind really was that intense.
Last night, I got home and checked my VM... Yep, you guessed it, the bank called. Someone found the envelope and turned it in to the bank, cash intact.
I can freely admit when I am wrong, and I am doing it now: There IS hope for the human race. It also bears mentioning that the local economy in my town is absolutely dismal, with unemployment and under-employment way above the national average. It is a VERY safe bet that whoever found the envelope was NOT "well off," and almost certainly could have made very good use of a free stack of Twenties.

We usually only hear about the dishonest ones, but there's a lot of good people out there too.

Glad it worked out for ya Jim! There are still good people out there, just seems like fewer and fewer these days.

Good to hear that there are still honest people out there (besides us, of course...)

Man oh man, it's a sad thing that this is the exception rather then the rule. I think there many many more good people then bad.

Golf course worker turns in $36,000Golf course worker turns in $36,000 AssociatedPress Tuesday,April 23,2013 5:31pm MIAMI BEACH — A South Florida golf course employee is being commended for helping return $36,000 in cash to its rightful owner. Police say Rachel Castillo found a bag full of money in January at Miami Beach Golf Course. She turned the money over to authorities, who found a name and address in the bag. The 76-year-old man was no longer living at the address, but officials managed to track him to an assisted living facility. Police verified that the money belonged to the old man, who will get it all back. If no one had claimed the money in 90 days, Castillo could have kept it. https://www.tampabay.com/incoming/golf-course-worker-turns-in-36000/2116951
