I am new to the SL1100 and new to the forum so if this topic has been discussed already, I am sorry for the re-post. My first remote IP phone went very rough. I have done testing with NEC tech support (thank you NEC) and found that the SL1100 side router is not the issue. There is a new Linksys EA4500 at the remote phone site that seems to be blocking some of the SIP signal packets. Even with the SIP ALG setting turned off. I had other issues like one way audio on every other call, which for some reason was fixed by having the SL1100 reboot each night. So I do not know if I fixed that issue or just put a band aid on it. My problem is the remote phone side. I need to know if anyone has a home-type router that works. I do not want to have to statically assign a phone and port forward. If that has to be done for every remote phone, then I do not see the purpose of remote VOIP phones. If there is a person that travels, they should be able to take the phone with them and not have to change the IP address of the phone, or the ports, or the router for every place they plug it in. So, does anyone have any success stories with a remote phone that works without a lot of tweaks to the router? Which router was it? I will avoid the Linksys brand as it does change the traffic and make calls not connect. A wireless router recommendation would be better. I would like to have one that I plan to install as part of a remote phone package. Thank you.

If you want to plug and play the like you described then you need a soft phone on a lap top along with a VPN.

We are mandating that the remote site use a business class router, like a SonicWall or watch guard. Those have the flexibility to resolve most issues, and give you the logs to troubleshoot. We had a similar issue on our first SL1100 remote IP phone install, and ran around and around trying to make the Cisco/Linksys router work reliably.

We use SonicWalls. Love em or hate em, they work.
