We currently have Iwatsu IX-24KTD-3 digital phones in our conference rooms. We use the speaker phone function for our meetings. We have had many complaints from our external meeting attendees about not being abel to here us. After searching the WEB, I can not find any type of Iwatsu digital conference phones. I read in the installation manual about an IX-LRAU option card that gives the KTD-3 an optional loud ringer, call recording jack, and "external speakerphone" connection. This may work, but I can not find any reference to an "external speakerphone" that plugs into this card. My question is what is the best way to get better conference room mic audio into an Iwatsu digital port, and what "external speakerphone" is the manual talking about? Lastly, what is the pinout for the RJ type jack on the IX-LRAU in case I need to come up with a custome solution?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,

Here is the diagram showing the pinout of the 6pin connector CN2 on the LRAU board. I don't know what speakerphones would be compatible with this. I don't believe Iwatsu ever made a speakerphone unit, so I think you would have to find some sort of generic device with a 4 wire interface.
If you have any analog ports in your system, I would imagine installing an analog Polycom would be the easiest way to improve sound quality rather than messing with a 24KTD-3.

The IX-LRAU will only improve the audio at your end, as it's mainly just tapping the audio that's already there.

You best bet is to use an analog port, if you have one, and use a Polycom or similar conferencing phone.

Considerations: How big are the conference rooms you're using?
How many people in the room, and how far from the bottom edge of the phone are they?

What type of surface is the phone sitting on- try putting a piece of desk blotter or something less reflective under the phone.

Muffle as much background noise as you can.

You could try conferencing two or three extensions together from smaller rooms- might make a difference.

Sometimes the thoughts in my head get so bored, they go for a stroll through my mouth. This is rarely a good thing.

Thanks for the information. I kind of figured out that Iwatsu never made an "external speaker phone" as is talked about in the manuals as I could not find any thing on the web. I did dig out an old Polycomm analog phone and install it in the conference room to see if it makes any difference. Thanks again for you replies.
