I have an Elite IPK phone system with Dterm 80 phones..

roughly 100 users.


lately several of the users are complaining that their phones no longer ring when someone calls, the extension just "auto answers"

that is, it beeps and the speaker phone is live with the call.

In checking this, by dialing these extensions, the call is in fact live on the speaker phone and the calling station has an option in the menu to "ring" the phone.


how does one go about disabling this annoyance and setting the phone back to ringing so that the employee can choose to answer or not, and if not forward to the Voice Mail system?

I cannot find anything in the manuals that indicates what causes this and how to reset it.

It's called Internal Voice/Tone Signaling. It's set in MB 1-2-01 globally. But unlike the later systems I can't see any user change code, well not in our software. It can manually for one call only be switched by dialing digit 1 after the station number is dialed.. I assume your talking IPK1 here??

Yes it is an older IPK, maybe 4 - 5 years, I inherited when I took over this position, I don't know much about it, and have an outside company that takes care of it..

but they have no clue either at least talking to them on the phone, and I don't feel a $300 service call is justified for such a simple issue, provided I can find out what the feature code is to change it.

Ok I found it.

first it is an IPK II system..


I found a Default Service Code List for it hidden in a drawer of a former employee.

the feature is "Force Ringing of Incoming Intercom Calls"


Feature #723

Speaker --> 723 turns it on and off.


my guess is that the employees that it has happened to are hitting speaker and dialing a 723 area code but forgetting to dial 9 first.. thus turning the feature on/off.

kind of a stupid design to use the speakerphone button to set the feature codes....


anyhow it is fixed, I posted here in case anyone else has a similar issue.

Do you have a local office code there with 723 XXXX and people forget to dial 9 to get out of the system. We changed all our service code s and put a * or # in front replacing the 7 and 6 first digit code for that reason..

Actually to make the phone ring on intercom calls
Press Speaker; Dial 723; Speaker
To make the phone voice announce
Press Speaker; Dial 721; Speaker

We have removed the service code 721 from the code list to prevent this from happening..
