Is it possible to block or alter our caller ID on outgoing calls for individual users? We have a few users who don't want the people they are calling to know our identity.

I've tried altering the station calling party number, but it still shows up with our company name. We have three T1's. One is a PRI for local and caller ID information and two full T1s for long distance.

I'm running an Axxess 512 V9.1.

You can change the number on the ISDN PRI and that is a loaded answer. You cannot block it completely but you can input bogus numbers in the calling number field for each station. You cannot change the name. For the T1s, you would have to contact the carrier to see if they can do something about that. I would call the carrier and have it done that way to allow you to block name/number on all of your telco services.

Yeah, I thought about that. The only problem is that would affect all of our outbound calls. The carrier may be able to alter it for one or two of the trunks, but then the individual stations would have to be assigned only to those trunks. Fun for me. Considering this is, for now, just one person, it sounds like a really good use for a cell phone.

Thanks for confirming my fears. It brings up another question. If the carrier overrides the Station Calling Party Number programming, why is it there?

The name will use the telco name regardless. On PRI most switch types will accept calling party ID which is what you can change. If the field is null in the Axxess, the telco will insert the main number, normally the billing number in this field. It is typically used where users wish to have their DID appear in outgoing caller ID. If you did not specify it, all outbound calls would show that billing number. You are right, it is pretty much all or none from a telco perspective.
