We have all been there. We take pride in our installs and everything looks crisp and clean then you turn it over to the customer and...

[It is a Cat 5 install, thus the cable ties rather than Velcro]

Cat5E or not. You still should use velcro and not cable ties. Other than that very nice work

In looking at the entire data room (which is not shown)this appears to be 'quite a few years old' and not a recent install. The cable is Cat 5, not Cat 5e.

I assume that at the time of the install that cable ties were still the norm and Loop & Hook had not yet been invented.

The attention to detail in the "waterfalls" shows that installer did was above the minimum of industry standard.

I agree that velcro is nice, but I have yet to see a standard dictating that velcro must be used. All I have seen is the fastening system must not cause marks on the cable.

These are the standards that apply to UTP, all catagories. ANSI/TIA-568-C.0, ANSI/TIA-568-C.1, ANSI/TIA-568-C.2,
ANSI/TIA-568-C.3, ANSI/TIA-569-C, ANSI/TIA-606-B, ANSI/TIA-607-B,
ANSI/TIA-862-A, ANSI/TIA-942-A, ANSI/TIA-1005, ANSI/TIA-1179,
ISO/IEC 11801, ISO/IEC 11801 Class EA, IEEE 802.3af, IEEE 802.3at,
IEEE 802.3an, IEEE 802.3ba and IEEE 802.11

Or, you can Click Here or Here to view the standards applied to either UTP, generally with Anixter's specification sheet or specifically Cat 6 with Leviton's specification sheet.

The IEEE reference to not deforming the wire conductors or changing the geometry of the cable lay-up is basically "use anything available, just do not make it tight." And then, of course, there's another whole set of considerations with POE. Click Here. POE cables have heat associated with the power being delivered via UTP.
