Hello - Does anyone know if I can use Vonage VOIP lines as the CO lines for a Partner ACS?

Thanks,

Joe

As long as the handoff to you is a standard POTS line you can use Vonage. The cable company where I live does something similar. The lines are SIP and they have an adapter to break them out to analog POTS line which, in turn, are connected to the Partner CO ports. We have not had any issues other than when the provider had trouble outside the building.

What Meyery2k said. Your voip lines should be coming over whatever broadband you have, via dsl or cable modem, etc. There should be an ATA (analog trunk adapter) or something similiar provided by Vonage that will convert the SIP trunks to analog. From the analog adapter you connect a station/line cord for each line into the line ports on the ACS.

I also have a Partner ACS System that wants to change phone vendor. Their Partner ACS is a release 3 and they want to switch to a local Cable company. Do you think there will be a problem with the software release being so old? And will their need to be some sort of analog adapter for this as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

@ Brendalee - Make sure the cable company provides a modem that hands off the lines as analog POTS trunks. The age of the system is not relevant. If the cable company provides reliable service, then service will be good.

The biggest challenge I run into with these is that the people at the cable company are not "phone" people. On the initial install for example, you might find rotary hunt groups not set up for multiple calls or they leave voice mail turned on.

Thanks Michael. I agree about the cable company not being "phone" people. They always leave the voicemail on and it causes me issues every time!!! I truly appreciate your assistance.

Keep in mind that some of these devices do not provide disconnect (CPC) signal. Therefore if you put calls on hold, you might pick up and find no one there, and your line will have been unnecessarily busy during that time. In addition, if you have a voicemail system or auto attendant, you may get long periods of silence that fill up your hard drive after the calling party hangs up. Something to keep in mind.

I use Linksys/Cisco ATAs with my Merlin Legend system, providing a total of four lines, two coming from each ATA, and I have no problems at all. Voice quality is excellent. Like Meyery2k mentioned, your quality of service will depend on the quality of the company providing it.
