Hello. I've just upgraded my office suite to Office 2007 Pro Plus. My Office upgrades are completing correctly but I'm finding that I have to re-install the Unified Messaging client after each upgrade. Not a problem, that I can do. However, on the most recent upgrades, when I go to install the UM client, I get an error message that says:
-------------------------------------------------
Could not install Unified Messaging due to one system incompatibility. Please correct this incompatibility and reinstall Unfied Messaging.

1. This installation requires Outlook to be installed with the Corporate/Workgroup option. Reconfigure Outlook with this option.
--------------------------------------------------

I can find nowhere in Outlook 2007 to do this. I did 30 upgrades before the error appeared. Now I am getting virtually every time. I've uninstalled the UM client and tried a clean install with no change.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Superfoneguy, I've found that upgrading from 2003 to 2007 has not been an issue. Installing directly in 2007 does not work. May I have your solution?

On this note, does anyone know if Communicator 2007 is compatible with an Inter-Tel Axxess system?

I've been looking into this product as a Corporate IM solution and see it also supports call routing, voicemail to email, and other UM functions i currently get with my Inter-Tel UM 2.1. The problem is 2.1's webclient won't work with IE 7 so i would like to just phase that out if i can and use the MS Communicator as a single product.

Anyone attempt this?
Results?

Thanks!

Are you referring to Unified Messaging or Unified Communicator when you refer to "Inter-Tel UM 2.1"?

I never received your email with the fix for Outlook 2007 and Unified Messaging 2.212. Did you email it to me? If not, is it possible you could post the directions and necessary data on this forum?

Thank you.

On the same note of using UM with outlook I thought there was some way of using IMAP instead of the UM client? Anyone know about this?

You can use IMAP if:

1. You are using an Enterprise Messaging server, version 1.1.43.X or higher

2. You have Unified Messaging licenses.

The IMAP version works well, but is not as 'fancy' as the UM client. When you use IMAP, you get a new folder in Outlook that yer voicemails get delivered to and they appear as .wav attachments. This means they can get huge in a hurry. If you delete the voicemail in yer email, yer message light goes off, if you move the email, the message is saved. You can also un-delete the voicemail and yer message light goes back on. That's pretty much it.

I got the fix and it worked like a charm. Why doesn't Inter-tel support this fix?

Thanks.

Sorry to get here late on this one.

Reason for incompatability with Office 2007:
All previous versions of Office were based on the original setup of all Office versions. Legacy application support was possible until Vista, Server 08, and Office 2007 came along. These SW suites all use XML imaging as the basis for their code. WHat this means is that, you can have a lot of issues with this suite of SW if being used with legacy SW. It may not be supported, however there may be a possible fix.

Try going to the Windows flashing button in the upper left of Word, Outlook, etc, and change from the new XML based file type to the classic or legacy file type, and let us know if that helped. If you need a hand with doing that, go to Microsoft Technet and type in changing file associations to classic type in Office 2007.

I'll have to try the above ideas, but the reason Inter-Tel isn't supporting Outlook 2007 or 2003 SP3 is likely that they want the client-model UM approach to go away. Too hard to support. The new UM OSE (IMAP) model works pretty well, isn't as 'fancy' as the client type but doesn't require client-side s/w so they really are pushing that solution.

2003 SP3 is absolutely not supported and I have no fix for that. I would not count on that ever being supported w/ the UM client. If you are running an Enterprise Messaging server you can use the IMAP solution.

Unified Communicator 2.1 is not compatible w/ IE7, that is true. The newest ver. of UC is compatible though.

As far as whether the Microsoft solution will integrate w/ the fone system, the answer is no. Inter-Tel has not made public any info that would indicate they are pursuing this at all.

All my users are on SP3 yet half of them work with SP3 and half of them don't. I've rebooted all machines and yet it still works on some. I find it odd and I hope I can find what is making the users on SP3 work. We're using Office 2003 SP3.

The fix seems to work for only Outlook 2007 not for Outlook 2003 SP3. It's only an update to one of the INF files.

Has anyone tried the fix described in Microsoft KB article https://support.microsoft.com/kb/938816?

I applied the registry hack to one machine with SP3 and it worked. It did not work on another machine. Biggest major difference between the two is that the one that works has IE6 and the other IE7. Of course it may have always worked for this IE6 machine...

I was able to get Outlook SP3 working with UM.

If you are running outlook SP3 you need to uninstall outlook and reinstall to SP2. Then reinstall UM, then apply SP3. I've notified InterTel of the fix. We have full functionality in UM

I will help hand it out as well as the latest client if someone will send them to me.

I have UM client 2.212, but would like to get the latest.
Does any of this work in Vista?

Here is a link for the fix for the unified messaging on Outlook 2007. This is only for systems running the vpu voicemail that uses um client v2.2XX. If you are running enterprise messaging with um client V2.3XX, it requires a different fix. Email me if you need that one.

Stop using UM. Go to each person's mailbox. Change email delivery from "Unified Messenger" to "Forward only" or "Forward and copy". No client based software is needed. The voicemail is delivered as a WAV file with the actual timestamp of the recording on the email, not when they happened to open Outlook.

This works for me if anyone else wants to try it.

What worked for me was to take the MSMAPI.INF file from an Outlook 2003 client and copy it somewhere else then upgrade to Outlook 2007 (2007 install will delete this file on upgrade) then after the install was complete I moved that INF file back to where it originally was programfiles/commonfiles/system/msmapi/1033 after that I was able to use the already installed UM or install it if the client didn’t have it. I have been doing this on all of our clients since we upgraded a little over a year ago with no issues.
