I have been having trouble on a site where the SIP trunks would not authenticate in the end I upgraded the system to 4.80 from 4.53 and it worked fine!
I now have one way speech which i'm a little surprised about as I have not done any thing with the MPS ports yet, I have multiple OAS card so do I forward 40000 40040 to OAS card 1 then 40041 40080 to card to and so on?

Is there anyway I can force the SIP trunks to just use one OAS card so I don't have to worry about using NAt on the others? I tried changing the MGI groups to sequential in the hope they would just use the first card but it didn't work.

Thanks

Delete the OAS channels for the other card from the VOIP Trunks in MGI groups. The type of group in MGI also doesn't seem to matter, as far as i can tell they are always distributed no matter what you set.

I've tried removing the mgi channels and it has no affect on the MPS channels.

As far as I can tell they are allocated randomly over all cards.

If you have multiple MGI/OAS cards you will need to adjust the port forwards as you have said, and you also need to change the settings for local and remote RTP ports on the MGI/OAS cards.

Don't forget the 45000 range for RTG ports (this was introduced in about 4.60 sw).

I wouldn't disable MPS as you get better quality (assuming you have ip handsets, otherwise it doesn't matter) and can have more calls as you don't need to use MGI channels.

Seems your right I can't bring the sip trunks to just one OAS card I have four OAS card which means a whole lot of ports as it's 128 ports per card.
The IT guy is locking the RTP ports down to just the sip provider this should be ok I guess as they have no remote users?

Also I have just tested my sip trunks and they work with no RTP ports forwarded, so do you not have to do it with some SIP providers?

You may have issues with incoming calls.
It also depends on the router and how well it handles the nat translation.

Just to clarify, it's not 128 ports per card. It's 32 ports per card, just the even ports are used. So you need a port range of 30000-30032 for card 1 30033-30064 card 2 so on and so forth. You need to make the correct changes in 831 for the port configuration of each card. Same goes for the MPS channels on the OAS cards. Best practice is to not use the MPS and go straight MGI. I have seen it cause plenty of issues in VoIP SIP deployments. Just my opinion.

MPS is only used if you have IP phones and IP trunks (SIP or SPNET), and results in better call quality as the call isn't converted to TDM to pass through the back plane, and then converted back to VoIP.

It's also built into the OS7030, 7100 and 7200s, and if used you require less MGI channels therefore a reduction in cost.

MPS/RTG uses 4 UDP ports per call, MGI just uses 2.

The even ports are used for RTP traffic and the odd ports are used for RTCP traffic.

As long as you forward the correct ports to the correct cards and program the cards accordingly it works fine.
