I swear that I'm learning something else every day on this system. This residential customer doesn't like the ring tones provided on their STS phones (the STSe KSU failed, we replaced it with a Summit).
She wants to cancel the purchase because of this. Ugh.
Is there any reason why we can't pull up the supposed myriad of ring tones on the STS phones? It seems as if there are only four available, and according to the customer, they all sound the same.
She's right. They don't offer much of a difference.

We found out through technical support that the additional ring tones are actually downloaded from the KSU to the newer phone models. The STS phones don't have this capability, hence the reason for the limitation of only four tones. Looks as if we'll be putting their STS KSU back in after it has been repaired.

Does this customer happened to be located in Ghent, Norfolk? Off white STS phones? If so good luck with that!
By the way, if the STS phones should all ring with the same tone, or split by which line rings, then change the CO ring tone instead, there are 12 of them, and they reside in the ksu not in the phone.

Yep, it's the same customer. We have sent their KSU out for repair and will be putting it back in once it comes back. We will then use the Summit KSU elsewhere. Lesson learned.

Had a customer like that once. Couldn't stand any of the ring tones. Took a Viking tone generator and hooked it up to the MOH port and set the system to ring over page. Turned background music on all sets and they got the choice of multiple ring tones. Didn't seem to be bothered by the lit LED on the speaker. Kludgy but it's been in over 6 years.

I just ran into this same issue at one of our sites. I ended up changing the Frequency under the maintenance tab, Tone Frequency / Cadence #32 "CO Differential Ring 1". I changed it to 450 and 480. It was much more pleasant at that lower frequency.

For what it's worth, I've repaired several STS & XTSc KSUs in-house just by replacing one capacitor.
