I'm trying to get an average of what cableing costs are around the country. I know what we charge for a standard 100 foot cat 5e cable including insert, faceplate, LV1, terminate and certify. We must be on the low side my son works for a deli and they were quoted $3000 for 3 drops less than 75 feet each. Can't fault the company that quoted it for trying. I really don't expect anyone to post their rates on an open forum BTW.

I hate installing cables in existing restaurant environments:

Hard capped ceilings, walls that are either Tile, Stainless Steel, or other Impervious Material.

Walk-in refers/freezers.

Boxes and boxes of 'stuff' stacked against every wall and stuffed in every nook and cranny and attic space.

et cetera...et cetera...et cetera...

Not to mention the crowded and frantic working conditions, and the quarter-inch layer of God-knows-what grease on every surface. Dead rats in those nooks and crannies, and in the ceilings and basement.

For all the reasons mentioned above we do cable work outside of their business hours. It helps minimize food contamination and what their patrons don't want to see or know about. Besides the normal tools found above drop ceilings and under raised floors in 30 plus years I've found various dead animals. a full six pack, womens underwear, booze and porn both hetero and uhh "alternative" I guess would be socially acceptable these days. What's the strangest stuff you guys have found?

It's kind of hard to reply without giving specifics. We have a published rate per cable and that is divided by category of cable all the way to OSP PIC 1,000 pair and above as well as fiber.

For a standard 100' Cat 6 cable with terminations on both ends, the rate is more than $50 and less than $500. We don't differentiate between plenum and PVC as all our runs are plenum except for the OSP PIC cables.

Our rates are low because there are over 100 cable only companies that will underbid us every time. They do horrible work, but, today, it all about the lowest cost.

Most of the cable only companies bid only one termination which is buried in the small print. They end up getting the job and then the job has to be turned over to a company that will terminate to the equipment. Then we charge a higher rate than our per hour rate because we not only terminate the cable, we will then test each cable and give the client the results.
