Hey gang, Apparently Panasonic messed something up on "CO Call waiting" on Rel-7 (or others as well) Customer has Vers-7 kxtd816, CO call waiting doesn't work properly - cuts off calls- works sporadically--will switch to second caller but when returning to initial caller second or both callers get cut off. Customer stated it worked fine before switching to 816 from 824.- tried various flash timer settings 400ms/500ms ...even 300 and 600...no go. Works fine on SLT consistently
Just happen to have a Vers 7 in inventory - did same tests / flash timers and GET SAME SPORADIC issues! Works fine at home with SLT as well. (Disabled Data Line Security) ANYBODY come across this before on KXTD's? I know they're old now...and most customers have line hunting ...but....

Maybe I'm a little stupid but I always thought one reason for a multi-line system was so that you didn't have to use call waiting.

Hal, Panasonic's terminology is a little bit off from the rest of the industry. They refer to call waiting as allowing a second call to ring on a station already in use. There is the option of traditional ringing through the speaker or a beep tone in the handset, but the subsequent call is still handled in the traditional manner.
I believe that the code to activate this is 7311#.
The OP's question really refers to a flash command being sent over the CO line in use, which would apply to CO call waiting. I've seen CO call waiting cause calls to drop, but only on WECO #1 and 1AESS offices. This is because the tone is actually inserted in the talk path, causing a momentary drop in loop current. This certainly causes calls on hold (on most systems) to drop. Depending upon the CO line settings, this can also cause a call in progress to drop. By default, Panasonic systems check for loop current before allowing access to them. The CO Flash timer should be set for 500-600 ms. Setting it higher will minimize nuisance dropping, but will also result in erratic flash command operation.
