I am a Nortel and Avaya IPO installer but I have programmed a few Toshiba Strata way in the past. I have a simple request from a customer who wants to be able to have their main DID number ring on one of the back office sets. I looked for a copy feature that would just allow me to copy an existing extension but I can not find that. Can you help me with programming instructions for this set? Thank you!

Are you programming the system through the phone are do you have software? It is very difficult to program through the phone. They do not (as far as I remember) have a copy function through the phone programming. That have some copy options when using the eManger software.

If they did, I think you still may have troubles getting that phone to ring.

There are a few different ways that a phone could be sent to ring on an incoming DID call.
First the call could be sent to a Multiple Call group, which is a table of extensions that should ring. I believe that this is the most common method. You would need to add an extension to the member's table
The 2nd method is by using a Phantom Extension (PhDN). A Phantom DN is basically a button with an extension number. If you copied this button to another phone then the other phone should ring.
The 3rd method would be to use Pooled line keys (or group line keys) on the phones and set the button to ring.

The easiest way to see how it is set is to call the number and see which button lights green. If the bottom Intercom key flashes green then this is likely a Multiple Call Group.

It is possible to add users to an MCG through the phone programming, although it is a bit tricky. The hard part may be if they have more then 1 MCG, trying to find the right group for the main number.

Thank you David. Yes I am programming via a handset. I have done this in the past but it was almost 10 years ago. Let me check with their office. It is the front desk reception desk that wants this handset in their mail room to ring so when the receptionist is back there she can answer. I'll check and get back with you. Thank you!

Looks like all the internal and external calls to that extension are ringing on the same buttons.

I bet this is a Multiple Call Group. It is possible to add an extension to a MCG through the phone programing. I have done it once or twice in a pinch, but iit isn't as easy as using eManager software.

After years of everyone asking for a PC programming tool there are still people trying to program via the handset go figure!

If you are unsure of how to do the programming then I suggest you get someone to do it for you as it is a really quick remote programming job.

Thanks. Do you have the instructions for me to make the change on this handset?

It would be helpful to know the system type you are trying to program is it a Strata DK, CTX or CIX?
When a call comes in do "line' keys flash green and ring or is it the PDN/internal key that is flashing green and ringing?
Is there any remote access to the system?
