Customer has a CICS.
They called and said this is what happened.
All the phones quit working - no display, dead.
They power-cycled the unit.
Then all the phones said "In Maintenance".
They power-cycled again.
Then 1 phone worked - dial tone, call out, etc...
But every other phone was just blinking like the system was just plugged in.

When I got to site, all the phones were still blinking and the one phone was working.
Went into Maintenance mode and except for the one working, EVERY station port was disabled.
I went through and enabled each port and the phones started working.

Programming was still good and all phones now working.

Have you ever seen that, especially the "IN MAINTENANCE" message?
Give me your guesses or expert knowledge as to what happened.

Thanks
Jim

Well, it's not halloween yet. Full moon? Never saw In Maintenance message. I wonder what would happen if you power cycled it again, now that the ports are enabled? However . . . I'm a fan of "if it's not broke, don't fix it".

I am going to guess that something happened be it exp or line card flaked out or maybe a power surge or built in nvram that put the system into Maintenance mode and then is got stuck and why it did not re-enable the phones.
Could also be the software that just glitched on it's own.

But will never know that one lol.

Well, it is still running after a week.
Guess we chalk that one up for a Glitch and keep going.

My guess is that the customer is glad that we didn't have to replace the system.

The only time I had something similar occur on a system, was when it defaulted. Couldn't work out why.

Took ages to reprogram as system had had Handset Relocation turned on for ages & ports were all over the place. A few weeks later the same thing occurred, but at least I had my notes from last time!

After finishing, some one came up to me and said, 'We have a leaky roof and water was running down the front of the Main Equipment, would that make a difference'!
'YES IT WOULD, I told her & I suggest you get it fixed ASAP, before the system blows up totally.'

Funny thing there was no sign of water, either time.
