My ex-mother-in-law had a WE yellow rotary phone wall mount telephone A/B 554 in the kitchen until 1990 when I convinced her that she doesn't need to keep renting the phone from the telephone company. GTE (Great Telephone Experiment) call

Yes the handsets where weapons to be sure . I dropped one on my bare foot when I was a kid , it hurt like the willybegeezit . Professor was she being charged extra for a yellow wall phone ? My parents rented their wall phone until the late 1980's . They must of paid for that phone 100 times over . It was installed in 1957 - lol

Yep rented the same phone since 1959...later was the rental of the princess phone w/lighted dial and I think it was pink with and external bell mounted floor level outside the bedroom. There was a green 500 set for the living room. All these were being rented.

Black on the wall in the dining room TW1nbrook 3123 until 1982 when I got in the business and convinced them they could own their own phone. The ITT phone I installed was "inferior" and they were teed off for a month.
