We are thinking about changing vendors for our network services. A Verizon Engineer was asking me if the Inter-Tel 5000 uses Multicast.
Where would I check to see if this is being used? I am new to the Inter-tel system and I'm not sure if it is used or where to look.
Also, is there a way to monitor the bandwidth used per call? I'd like to know how much bandwidth is being taken up on our network from the phone system.

Inter-Tel 8664 / 8665 Wireless IP Telephones use messages to "check-in" with the SVP Server based on multicast technology. Most routers deployed in multi-subnet environments are configured to filter out multicast and broadcast messages. If an Inter-Tel 8664 / 8665 Wireless IP handset is powered up on a different subnet than the SVP Server, to which it is registered, the multicast message requesting to "check-in" will never reach the SVP Server. The 8665 Wireless Telephones also utilize IP multicast messages for the Push-To-Talk (PTT) feature.
