Hello all
We are in the process of changing out a customer's phone system and are trying to make it a little more economical for them. Customer is moving from a fixed PBX to a full hosted VoIP (SIP)Centrex solution.

They currently have a number of Intertel 8662 IP Phones. We would like to be able to re-use these phones on our softswitch so that the customer does not need as much new equipment.

I saw posts indicating that the 8662 can be used on other platforms such as the Asterisk and was wondering if there was a aprticular firmware required for this? How do we access the phone programming so that we can do some interoperability testing and eventually move them over to the new system?

They can be used however the features are EXTREMELY limited. We opted to replace all the 8662's.

Thanks Tofer, possibly they can use them in the areas where simple functionality is all that is needed, courtesy phones, etc. Do you know where I can find info on getting into the phones to point them to our SIP server?

Unplug the fone and plug back in while holding down the 1 and 2 keys. This places the fone into SIP mode. You can then browse to the fone on port 8080 to configure the SIP settings.
