Probably has to do with the port auto sensing on the Juniper. If you are able to, try making one of those ports just negotiate at 100 full duplex and see if the system responds connected to that port.

For now, I'm breathing a sigh of relief that it's working! (I do want to get the legacy switches off the network, though.)
