We're getting ready to ship another employee to Australia for long-term assignment. Before I release a 8662E to him, is there anything on the horizon I should know about? In specific, are there any new Inter-Tel/Mitel devices I should consider instead of the 8662? He's going to be down there for years, I don't want him to be taking a soon-to-be paperweight. Will be connecting to Axxess 10.x, which COULD turn into a 5xxx in the next year or two.

TIA

The 8662 is a solid proven IP fone. If you had him connecting to a 5000 now that was on the latest s\w release (3.2), you could get him a 5330\5340 IP fone. These are the classic Mitel IP fones and have the benefit of a paper-less key label design and way more keys for the user.
Also those fones can be provisioned w\ a number of cool accessories like a conference room saucer, wireless handset\headset and a gigabit ethernet interface. I think the audio is slightly better as well. I can pretty much guarantee the Axxess will not be supporting these Mitel fones ever, so it isn't an option for now on that one.

Superfoneguy are you changing anything with the default settings on the 5330/5340? I only ask because I have found the audio to be better on the 8662 hands down and your post indicates it sounds better.
Thanks

Nope, but we do use the 'Advanced Echo Suppresion' setting available on the newer 5000's. I think the 86XX fones sound fine, but we feel that the 53XX fones are slightly better.

Now, on the Mitel 3300, the 53XX fones sound super good- to me it's almost a stereo effect.
