Hello,

I have an IP phone that it seems is not getting the correct IP from DHCP.

I know my DHCP server is working, all my workstaions get IP's fine as well as other IP phones.

When I power on this phone I see it get a 10.xxxx address and of course wont connect to my phone system. Should be a 192.xxx number If I give the phone a static IP it works fine.

I tried defaulting the DB, powered on holdng 7/8 and defaulted the DB on the phone. It still does not get the correct IP dynamically.

I try a second phone, using all the same cables, wall jack, and power it works fine.

Any ideas how to "zap" the phone to help it find its dynamic ability again?

There is no fix. Either set a static IP, or have Mitel exchange it. Assuming it's still under warranty. I've had this happen on several 8600 series phones. Mitel has not offered any reasons.

HMM It is a few years old.
Dang, Static means keeping it in house and we generally use IP phones for off-site staff.

Well that's not fun....

Thanks for the info.

The fone is fine. You're DHCP server is attempting to assign an IP address to the fone that is already in use. Here's why:

There is a device on your network that is using an address that is within your DHCP scope, but wasn't assigned to it by your server. So when the IP fone boots and receives its proposed address info, it does an ARP on the LAN to be sure the server didn't screw up and assign it a bad address. The fone gets a reply, so it rejects the address info it was proposed and requests a new address from your server.

This is where the process is broke: the server rejects the new request and insists on the fone using the addressing already in use! This is a server problem, not a fone problem. Soooo...

Boot yer fone up until the LCD screen reads the 10.X address. Look in your DHCP scope lease viewer and find that fone's MAC address and proposed IP address.
Start pinging that address.
Unplug the fone.

Are you still getting a reply? Yep, there is some forgotten or rogue piece of gear on yer LAN bringing you unhappiness.

To troubleshoot, try to telnet or http to that broke address to determine what kind of gear it might be.

Let us know what you find...

Wire Shark can be a good tool when chasing some of this stuff. If you are using power bricks you can put a HUB (not a switch) between the wall and power brick and attach a PC running Wire Shark boot the phone and the program will capture all data in both directions. If you have Mitel credentials you can go to training and look under misc and you will see a training for Wire Shark. I've used it for years and learned a little about filters so was time well spent.
You can also do a ping to your network as X.X.X.255 with the X's being your network then follow up with arp -a for a list of device IP's in use
