Back in the day, I owned 2 portable and a desktop scanner from Neat. It ran software that did OCR and auto straightened the document. I went to the Brother mobile scanner, but I have an application that needs the OCR and document straightening so any rummy (me!) can dump the sheets into the hopper and press SCAN.

So, Neatworks 4.9.8 is the one I have a key for, 5 anything sucks, and 4.2 might work if I have a key. The scanners are made of unobtanium (or ebay) and the software has vaporized. But wait! For $200 a year I can get Neat's cloud system.

Or use my Brother.

Wow. Haven't thought about Neat in a long while. Blast from the past.

Yes. I scored a burgundy desktop scanner from Home Shopping or somewhere for sub $300. The software could scan and OCR a 2 1/2" receipt and put it in a bin based on the place you shopped. Great for gas tickets and it would pick out keywords. The beauty of the desktop is it would feed papers...not too well, that's why I went to 24# stock, and duplex them. Neat came out with 4.9.8 software that I picked up with a key in March of 2012! Then they got out of the scanner business in about 2017.

After I went to single sided work orders, it became easier to just single scan with my Neat portable scanner, then Iphone pictures, then the Brother 920DW for duplex scanning to an SD card.

I have an Iriscan with OCR somewhere. I think they all were inexpensive after the desktop scanner, $150 or less. I still use the Brother in the field.
