I have a 52f9 axxess system which has developed a database problem when connecting the slave CPU 550.9016 to the master CPU 550.9015, (the led flash in sequence on the master) the system will not boot up as long as the fiber connection is connecting both the master and slave CPU's. Most of the cards will not power up, but If I disconnect the slave fiber connections & reboot the system it will boot up..

Another symptom is when the system is running (The system has 4 cabinets) the last 3 cards beside the slave CPU do not come on line, as well as 2 DSKC16 in the 4th cabinet.

I am suspecting the slave CPU but I am not sure how to diagnose if the slave is the real problem.

I'm also wondering if it could be a bad power supply or backplane that is the issue.

Any tips would be appreciated..

Thank you
Stewart

My first thought is power supply. Is it in the top of the cabinet or a removable power supply? I'm thinking back in the 5.2 days it was built into the top of the cabinet but that was a long time ago. If so you could do some rolling of cabinets, I know it doesn't sound like a lot of fun but unless you have another cabinet or power supply it might be the best option. I think a guy could throw a lot of parts at it and this might eliminate some of that. Be sure you get a good download before you start messing with it too much. It could save you a lot of reprogramming

I replaced the power supply with a 550.0131, I unplugged all the cards except the CPU's and if the slave is connected via fiber the master CPU will not boot, if I remove the fiber link and reboot the system boots up & starts correctly.. when it is running and I connect the fiber within a minute the master CPU shows flashing lights and the phone system stops working.. I have a spare cabinet so i guess I will try this first and see if this corrects the problem, also one other note is the cards in the top cabinet are not coming on line and the 4th cabinet 2 cards flash for a second but do not come on line either.. I am not sure what the slave CPU real function is but I was thinking it was for controlling the 3rd & 4th cabinet..
Thanks for your input..

Take a freeze of the error logs after a failed boot with the slave cpu connected. Have a look in the message print to see if there is anything logged.

Also try connecting a pc with hyper terminal running at the time of boot up and see if there are any errors being logged. 9600 8 n 1

As a last resort try re flashing the slave cpu with the correct firmware could be poissible corruption on the flash.

Has this system ever worked with this slave cpu? as at the moment you still can't rule out either cpu cards being faulty.

Hi
I really appreciate your help, turns out the slave CPU lost its firmware and I reloaded it and everything came up on the rest of the cards.. I was pretty concerned that flashing the CPU might fail and then the card would be useless but it did accept the firmware update.
Thanks again!
