We're looking at installing a new-ish Intertel Axxess at one of our locations and I have a dumb question. Is there any problem with mounting the chassis vertically, instead of horizontally (rotating 90 degeres)? Voicemail is provided by a PC, so there shouldn't be any moving parts in the system, and therefore no problem. Its the standard chassis.

We either have to mount vertically or set it on the ground due to space limitations in the closet...

Not a problem. I've done that a couple times due to space restrictions.

I would be very concerned about heat. The cabinet is designed take advantage of natural dissipation of warm air rising out of the top being replaced with cool air entering the bottom.

That’s also why the cover should remain in place: air flow is not as efficient with the cover removed.

I would never install one horizontally or with air flow restricted. If it’s not wall or rack mounted, make sure those big, ugly rubber feet are attached to the bottom of the cabinet.

DND, what if i removed the two side covers? Youthinks this may solve the airflow issue?

I would install the equipment as the manufacturer intended. YMMV.
