Question:
Can I have one outgoing message for our entire sysytem?

Details:
We have a Lucent Parter Mail VS Phone System.
We are a small business, without the need for a receptionist, voicemail boxes, etc. This phone system is much more advanced than we need. However, we need the option to have several phone lines and voicemail.
We have recorded a new outgoing message/personal greeting. We do not need the first auto attendant message that is currently recorded on our system. It is completely redundat to have the two messages. I cannot figure out if there is a way to delete this option and simply have ONE outgoing message. I have the pdf user guide and it is not helping!
Any advice is truly appreciated. Thank You!!!

What exactly are you trying to do? Tellus what you want the caller to hear and do.

I simply want the caller to be able to hear one outgoing message and then leave a message in our "general mailbox".

We do not need to have a personal auto attendant/operator and a personal greeting as we do now. We do not have a "receptionist" to transfer to. I get the calls. If I am unavailable or on the line, someone else/another staff person will get the call. If that person is unavailable then the caller will get voice mail and leave a message. Bottom line, we need ONE outgoing message so if we are on the line or unavailable the caller can leave a message in a general mailbox.

I hope that helps. I truly appreciate your assistance!

First, what Mail VS release do you have? When you log on as administrator it should tell you.

Now, I'm not sure I understand your queston. Are you saying that you don't want callers to hear an auto attendent menu that directs them to people in you company- something like

"Thank you for calling Gift Basket. If you know your parties extension you may dial it at any time. For Mike dial 11, for Joe dial 12. To speak to our receptionist dial zero or stay on the line."

Are you saying that you have only one mailbox and you want calls to go to that directly? Basically an answering machine?

I am pretty sure it is release 2. I cannot find anything when I log in to confirm that...?

And yes, I am looking to do exactly what you have above! An answering machine style message!
It sounds outdated, but works best for our business at this time!

Thanks!

Log on and it will say "System Manager, Partner Mail release ___. You can press 7 at this time to get more details.

But it shouldn't matter.

I'm going to tell you how to make the worlds most expensive answering machine.

You need to assign line ownership to the extension you want to have answer the lines.

In system administration assign all your CO lines to #206 option 3. Then log onto your messaging system as administrator, press 9 as usual then 6 for line ownership. Assign all lines to the extension you want to use.

Hal, you are the best!
I hope this works!
How do I log in as system admin as opposed to logging in regularly?

If you don't know how to do that I think you really need to read and familiarize yourself with the installation and programming documentation for whatever Partner system you have. The administration for the phone system is separate from the messaging system.

You can download this from the Avaya website, Avaya.com. Click on support. If you can't determine what system you have, just download the ACS release 7 and earlier Installation, Programming and Use documention. The procedure for accessing the system programming has always been the same and is done from extension 10 or 11. Features have been added in the later releases but what you have will still be in there.

Ok, I do know how to log in as administrator. I have done that before and temporarily forgot.
We have realse 3.
I have the manual/info from Avaya, and was trying there this morning before I found you and this forum as my "last resort"!
I have gotten close to the steps you provided above. But I am a little aprehensive! The manuals are totally overwhelming.
If you have time can you PLEASSSEEE walk me through the basic steps to key in inorder to complete my "Expensive Answering Machine"!!! Thank You!!!

I don't know if it matters, but we doi have "hunting" on our system, in order to allow the other lines to ring through if we are on the line. All lines eventually go to voice mail.
I don't know if this is related. I don't want to screw up our system.
Thank You, Hal!
