While my friendly Avaya tech was here today replacing a drive on the PBX he mentioned that our switch (release 7) was approaching it's end of life. Anyone know about this? Any good companies out there that might provide support after the after life?

This document should help you.

If you want to stick with Avaya maintenance they will probably force you to upgrade to a S87XX processor at some point. But I am sure that the G3r will be supported in the secondary markert forever. Time to dump your Avaya maintenance and go with a business partner. They will probably support it forever and you will end you paying half of what Avaya charges for maintenance.

Or upgrade to an S8700 and enjoy all the new features that a server based processor can offer you. EC500, Video, IP phones and trunks to name a few.

I took my maintenance to a Business Partner and they ended up extending my switch life by 3 years. This summer I am am now forced to change my Audix to Intuity or go with a provider that says they'll cover it until I decide to change. After weighing many issues, I am going to take the forced upgrade with Avaya. I'll be keeping my maintenance with a BP as I did save about 20%.

Seems like the Avaya BP would be pressured by Avaya to get on board with them and stop supporting G3r.

The upgrade is about $200,000.00. We don't really need it.
I need it in terms of my career. Not exactly a good arguement to get managment to upgrade.

I'm with you on that. We haven't needed any of our upgrades. They were forced to continue support which in turns costs a lot of cash. Personally, I like having the security of Denver and my local techs being at my doorstep within a 4 hour window.

If there is one thing I know from experience is that when computers go down.. people get upset. When dialtone goes down.. people go insane. Luckily, it doesn't happen too often. I like the product and it's dependable. For that, we pay.

The problem with not upgrading is that it costs you more and more with every release. You are currently 6 releases behind the current release which is CM3.X (R13). When CM4.0 comes out next year the cost to upgrade will be $250,000.00. So just keep that in mind. I have seen upgrades that cost more. I would suggest you get multiple quotes from a few BP's as costs will vary.

Not really that big. PPN is two cabinets and then 7 remote EPNs. 600 phones.

The ? I have...is why stick with Avaya or a BP..
if they keep pushing expensive upgrades. The
Definity has always been a very realible switch.
Replacement parts are getting cheaper all the time.
So what is the big issue????
