Media Server 8400

I have been trying to get our support dialed in to look a some alarms.
However the modem will not answer until 9 rings and will not let him connect.
So i send him copies of the alarms. Looks like our backups have been failing since august 29th.
We have tried a new Compact Flash card, Formatted it and did manual backup. Failed.
errors are as follows
backup: 2: unable to create file /etc/opt/ecs/backup/xln_011002_20071030.info - Scheduled Backup terminated backup: Performing save translation, please wait..... backup: : Error while performing save translation - -0.00390625 - Backup continuing for xln backup: 7: creation of backup image failed with rc -- 36096 -- Scheduled Backup terminated for xln Performing ERROR RECOVERY, please wait..... timestampfile: Couldn't open file:<"/etc/opt/ecs/backup//.total_bkp">: Read-only file system

Manual run for save translation gives
MSS error Encountered.

Any ideas welcome.
Thanks.

Are you running CM 3.0.1? I am and had the same problem. Their is a patch for that load. If you are not I would look through the Product support notices and see if their is a known issue with your current version of software. If you are running 3.0.1 let me know and I'll post the patch you need.

current running release is s8400-013-01.2.632.1

i have looked at that site and found this artical
PSN #1451U - Some S8400 Server’s internal 2GB Compact Flash Card / Solid State Drive (SSD) can fail.

my support yesterday told me that they were wondering if this was the case.
i have fwd this to them to further look at.

in the mean time if anyone has any ideas on how i might beable to get a current back up in this state that would be great.

Build a FTP Server and back up via FTP. That is a very simple way to do backups on S8XX0's. You can use any XP professional box as an FTP server. Just install the IIS during or after the XP install. Then configure the S8XX0 via the web interface.

The load you are on 3.1 had a lot of problems. See below
https://support.avaya.com/japple/cs...mp;temp.releaseID=282185&x=9&y=7

One way to fix most all the bugs in 3.1 is to upgrade to 3.1.3 which i think they consider the "combo patch".

liquidvw has also given you good advise as IMHO you can not have enough backup's VS. loosing your translations. I would do both.

Tried the FTP option. it failed as well.
I keeps failing making the backup file it what it looks like.
I might be S.O.L.
we will see what support has to say on this.

found out what was taking my support company so long on this.
They are no longer an Avaya Business partner.
This happened 2 months ago, and they failed to inform us of this.
Luckly my Toshiba dealer likes me and was able to reccomend another compay in denver to help.
Apparently this is a bigger problem than what my original support company let on to be.

For any one that has a s8400 i would advise to contact their support and if not already have them download and install the patch to detect this problem.
Other wise signs that this ssd card is going bad are
Modem will not answer
Backups start to fail
the system continues to run with out any other signs other than a minor alarm due to back ups failing.
ftping backup files fail, so hope your backup on the compact flash is good and recent.
