We have a customer who has an R7. When they establish a conference call, there is an unbearably loud screeching sound. It diminishes if a system phone is not used, but still there. We have already tried having them reset the system. I have never seen this problem with a Partner. Has anyone else. Do we have a system that is starting to fail? Could it be something with the lines?

Could it be feedback from the hands-free speaker & microphone (If it is being used)?

Check the loop current - see if it is too hot.

I don't think it's the hands-free speaker/microphone as the screech comes up whether or not the handset is used. If one pushes conference on the handset after the conference is established, it gets quieter (it does not go away though).
Tommy, how high is too high when it comes to voltage...over 60?

That's loop CURRENT not line voltage. 20-25ma tops.
I never knew Partner had a conference button on the handset. Where exactly is it?

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but this is a new problem to me...Vance, what sort of filter are you talking about...

I think what vance is talking about Jeff, is a filter/resistor to cut the loop current. Here is a good article that Sandman has on high/low loop current.

I had an identical problem and we solved it by installing filters on each of the 18Btn sets that were used for conference calling. I don't recall the exact brand and/or type of filter but if you haven't solved the problem yet let me know and I'll go by the account and see if I can get the brand and part number.
