I have a old client that moved into a new office with an abandoned Merlin Legend system. The system seems to be working as we can make and answer calls on our 4 new POTS lines. But I can't seem to find the programming port for our MLX-20L. I have plugged it into the first 5 ports on the left-most card in the system (408) and don't get a response from any key on the phone (except one SA key) let alone any response from the menu key. I've powered-off the system before moving to the next port with no luck.
My cards are:
slot 0 processor
slot 1 408
slot 2 408
slot 3 408
slot 4 012
Is there a trick to finding the correct port?

Well, you're on the right track - are those 408 cards marked 408 MLX?

you may have a bad set where none of the buttons work. the only reason the sa button works is because it is the default button... Is the dial pad also dead on the MLX-20L?

The dial pad has never worked on our MLX-20L as long as I've been testing with it. The menu button worked briefly on the last port of the first card but didn't give me a SYSTEM option. I've tested other MLX phones with *00 but could not test this MLX-20L because of the dialpad.

It's gotta be the phone. Regardless of what port it's on, the menu button should work.
MLX sets are notorious for having keypads go bad. Send it to get refurbed or pick up a new set.

Yes - 4-pair cord. Even moved the MLX-20L to the cabinet and used my own 8-conductor cord. Still no dice. I was pulling my hair out because nothing was showing up on the console. I going to assume I have a bad set and will replace it. Thanks to everyone for the feedback!

Got my replacement MLX-20L, plugged it in and had no problems. Plugged in the old set using the same port and cord and had the same old problems. Boy, there is nothing like new stuff to fix old problems. Great forum answers - thanks!
