This might to be too obscure but...
I have an old western electric 500 series rotary phone I want to use.
I've got it wired so it has a dial tone but
there is no ring when anyone calls in.
Inside the phone is a terminal with 5 screws
One one side coming out of the phone itself
are black and red wires.
The ones from the jack line are yellow, green, red and black.
I've got black going to black at terminal 1
red to red at terminal 2
Green going to empty terminal 3
and yellow going to empty terminal 4
terminal 5 has no wires.
There are also a gray and gray/striped wire
coming out of the phone on the other side
of the terminal. The gray wire is attached
to the terminal with the green jack wire
and the gray/striped wire is attached to the terminal with the two red wires.
If anyone has understood this and can tell me why I'm not getting a ring when called,
and where the wires should be going, I would
be very, very appreciative.

thx,
basil p

are the wires from the ringer hooked to anything?

Probably wired to ground for the ringer. Find the Capacitor and move from yellow(?) lead to red. Your going back a long way, hope my brain cells still work that far back!
