Finally! Someone actually teaching the roots of telecommunications! Thank you Merrritt and Crystal for taking the bold step to do so. I really hope that this program works and brings some new blood into our industry.

On a side note, isn't that Vodavi STS KSU upside-down?
Posted By: metelcom Re: Classroom telecom setup - 08/21/06 07:08 PM
Ed you caught that, its not upside down the cable is plugged into the exp port (keep it out of the way) that cable will go to a 25 pair that goes to rear of classroom for phones back there. The Vodavi cables are on the right side (hidden) and go to the 110 blocks below it. I need top get a wall mount for the phone so it won't need to sit on top of PC

I have an Axxess sitting in my basement at home..since I am now at college.
Want it??
PS. I wish we had the phone system stuff in my classes in high school. I had to learn the hard way!

OMG!! First Jeff Foxworthy, now George Strait!! Will wonders never cease??

I agree with you jeff. I wish I had SOMETHING like this in high school. I'm a product of the NYC public schools. By the time I got to high school, they shut down all the "___ shop" classes, no wood shop, no metal shop.... In junior high school, they did do print shop, and technical drawing shop....... Computer classes were a joke, usually just playing edutainment games like Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego.

Great job Crystal and Merritt!

Great job Merrit! I'll post some pictures of my cabling lab when I get it cleaned up...maybe next week.

I did have woodshop class this past year which was great. Built me a table smile

I want to take this class? Where do I register? lol.
Posted By: metelcom Re: Classroom telecom setup - 08/23/06 05:01 PM
Thanks a lot guy as George Strait said there isn't much wall space. I do have a spot in back of room I'm going to setup sort of remote closet the wall was built on a old display rack school had.

sentrex1 Crystal is interested in Nortel she has certs. from an old job PM sent

I had wood shop. Everything I built turned out to be an ashtray. That's why I do phones now. I am not allowed to use a tape measure, "it's 43" and 5 of them little things" does not amuse a wood shop teacher.
Mark
I could send you a Tie Paragon, the're sure to run into a lot of them out there.

A Samsung 816 so they could see the "mmodern" stuff?

Seriously, you've done a wonderful thing and you'll influence people for years to come. Not everyone gets a chance to help people in this way, dentists, doctors and lawyers to name a few. Good going, you deserve proper recognition for this.

Ashtray's out of wood? That can't be good...

Nice job Merritt! As Bunnie said, you'll influence people for years to come. It's good to have something to interest the kids who may not be keen on going to college, or can't afford it. They need to know that you can make a good living by learning (and mastering) a trade.

What's the name of this class?
Posted By: mdaniel Re: Classroom telecom setup - 08/29/06 08:38 AM
That's funny Mark.
I tried word working once and everything I made turned into firewood.

a Tie Paragon
I use to install those...did a few and never saw one again, that was one short lived system, but it really had the bells and whistles compared to the EK 308 and 512. That was the period we were migrating from the 25 pair to skinny iw. late 70's early 80's I think...I just remember it was another life wink
Thanks Bunny for the memories. :thumb:

I am the ultimate packrat. During a recent warehouse clean I threw out 5 "new" never out of box Tie Paragon telephone sets. Shiny black and white with the saddle shoe two tone handsets. laugh
