I need help guys. The telephone companies can't or won't help me. I recieved an email this weekend claiming to be from Ebay. However this is a different scam than the normal Ebay scams. This one said my account has been closed due to fraudulent activity and I need to send my drivers license , credit card , bank statement, and utility bill to a "US fax number ". The number is 323-446-7072. I do a white pages reverse phone search and it comes up as Allegiance Telecom landline in California. I called Allegiance and they claim not to have that number in their database. I called the number and it said to leave a message press 1 or to fax press 2, so the number does exist. I called the Operator and 411 and neither were any help. The gall some people have !!! I know if the telephone companies can't help me then brightest minds in communications here at this website can. Let's get these people !

I get these emails all the time, most are from banks that I have no dealings with. Just delete it or forward it to Ebay's fraud department.

So you didn't find this page?

https://www.google.com/search?q=323...opera&rls=en&hs=DL9&filter=0

As long as you didn't actually fax them anything, just leave it alone.

I get that stuff all the time myself. Just forward the entire message to "[email protected]" with the full headers, etc. attached. Let them track this down. Just remember, they will NEVER contact you except through alerts within your own e-bay home page. I hate to think of the many people who do fall for these scams. It's probably well into the tens of thousands.

I also get a lot of the following, got this one on Friday...

This is only a part of the email...

With my position as the manager,I traded with the money in the Ghana Stock Market and made a profit
of an amount Seven Million, Eight Hundred & Fifty Thousand US Dollars ($7.850,000.00) . I
deposited this profit in an Escrow call account and I did not declare this fact to my board of directors. I drew up a draft that made the money seem to be held in Trust by my Bank pending the notification of a referree and a beneficiary.

I contacted you, to stand as beneficiary of this Account because as a member of the Adminstrative Board of this Bank, I cannot be associated with this money. I can transfer this money to your Account following the due process regarding international Transfers of this kind. What i ask of you is that can I rely on your trust ? Can you hold this money for me till I arrive in your Country ??

Yes I did send this to [email protected] , the only reason I am aggrivated about this is because they actually left a phone number. That is as arrogant as it gets. I get these all the time and forward it ,but this one was so unique that it really set me off. Anyway, I thought you guys would have an idea to find the identity of these people. If nothing else, everyone should fax them numerous pages of black paper to kill their ink lol.

Too late, I tried to send them a special 3 page black message, but the number is OOS.

A good point of reference is www.fbi.gov
They can investigate and they provide links to specific sites they work with.

I do that with Spam faxes, but I only use 2 pages, mark a line down the middle of each page, tape 1 page to the other(end to end), start the fax & then tape the other 2 ends together. It ran in a loop most of the night.

The last one I did this to actually had the b*lls to call me the next day to give me sh*t for wasting HIS paper, ink and tel line. Yeah right....

I get the bank scam e-mails all the time, with the phoney links which appear to be taking you to Barclays, NatWest or whoever but which of course go to somewhere quite different.

Apart from the usual widows of Nigerian Generals who want to make me rich, I had a wonderful attempt at extortion a couple of months ago. Apparently somebody I call a friend had decided to have me "rubbed out," but the hit man had been following me, realized I was innocent of the "crimes," and willing to cross his employer if I paid him $8000. eek

Back to the phone scams though, we have all the non-geographical 0870 and "personal/corporate" numbers in the 07xx and 05xx codes here, which the scammers like to use, since those number can be pointed anywhere.

Some of the fraudsters must think people are stupid though. I've received e-mails saying "Please fax your details to our London office," and then giving a phone number which starts with 00 852 -- Hong Kong!

I was getting Viagra and other spam text messages on my cell. I had to call the carrier and have them remove the text message function.

one good way to get even, so to speak is to use your PC and a fax program and fax them 999 copies of a black page (uses a lot of ink and paper) There are a lot of scams out there and new ones every day.

Re the Uganda and other 'have I got a deal for you' scams. I just reply telling them that just as soon as they send me a video clip of themselves eating feces ( smile ) and howling at the moon, I'll get right on their request! John C. (Not Garand)

I have a friend that is selling a Fold-A-Boat. He used Craigs List and he got an email from someone saying they were mailing him a check so he says OK after it clears. Well yesterday he got the check and it is for 3800.00 and the boat is only 800.00 so he calls the sheriff, of course sheriff says it's a phoney and we are laughing about it and while we are still talking DHL comes to his door again and they have another 3800.00 check from someone else. Looks like the fools didn't communicate with each other as to who was supposed to send the check. Cool thing is they are out almost 40.00 for DHL

I too use the fax program on PC but Its better to send to a number they actually answer. You will hear their hello then fax tone... Copy number and send it to them all day.

This is an "clever scam" they will purchase something on E-bay,etc and send a check for meore than the purchase amount and ask you to send them the difference. Often it will be a "certified check" or money order so it looks legit. of course it isnt. Now you are our the item and the "extra funds".

Years ago I received a letter saying I had won some "unimproved property" in Mexico over looking the Sea of Cortez. In 20 years the land would revert back to the Mexican gov. And I only had to pay a " small" yearly maintenance fee. Of course I jumped right on that......not.

I hate to bump something that is slightly old, but darn you guys have some funny ideas. I typically don't have time to bother with any responses, but the ones from out of the country are so sad it's hilarious. They must really think Americans are fools.

The sad thing is that they must keep sending them because somebody is actually responding to them. Now that is scary.

I had one of those "I've found millions in a dormant account and want to share it with you" scams some months ago which purported to be from an official at a big London bank.

His English spelling and grammar were so bad that I doubt he could even get a job as a counter clerk, never mind anything higher. The address he gave didn't match up with the postal district; I forget the actual places he used, but it was something like claiming to be in Paddington and then using London EC2 (East Central) when Paddington is West -- About as obvious a mistake as trying to tell a New Yorker that Wall St. is in Brooklyn.

The phone numbers were for some other part of London entirely, although I wouldn't expect the average person to have spotted that.

But the real icing on the cake was the suggestion that I would receive 3,500,000 lbs. cash. Say what? Even people who have never set foot in Britain know that lb. is for weight and £ is for currency.

Yes, I don't know what list I ended up on, but I get several daily now. I think I could have retired many times over by now.....
