For years I've used a WECO 1013B orange butt set.
Very sensitive & reliable. But these days I need
tone dialing more & more.

I wanted a butt set which also was smaller & lighter if possible - Have a case full
of tools which gets heavier the more types
of circuits I have to test. The TS 21s and 22s didn't seem to fill that spec...

but I also wanted it to be well-designed..

I tried a friend's Fluke TS25 - fantastic for
features, but it fails the test for ergonomics -
can't hold it to your ear on your shoulder, and the volume's too faint IMO.

I've seen pics of L'il Butties online...
Does anyone here have experience with them?

I tried to find a WECO 1015 ( the later issue of
the 1013 but with a tone pad ) but no luck...

Can anyone suggest something to fill this
category?

Thanks,

DP

You won't find anything better than the Harris (Now Fluke) TS22 on up. That's what we all use. those L'il Butties and the like are crap IMO. They are made for sparkies and geeks who want to be telecom guys.

I've got a Premier butt set that I use as a spare...but my main one is a TS30.

Thanks for all the suggestions..

"lighter Butt..." ( personal problem ) - I had a laugh at that...I weigh close to 100 - (I won't say from which direction..). I should probably carry
a heavier butt set to weigh me down..

I used to issue the AT&T 1015's to my techs, but nobody really cared for them. The only place to find them nowadays is on e-bay.

I must say that I'm fairly partial to the Harris/Fluke TS30 myself. No speaker, but comparable in size/weight to a WECO 1013 with similar ergonomics.
