I have an Odyssey 128 key system purchased from Cortelco Kellogg Co. in 03/2000. We had a lightning strike 06/2003 and now we are unable to receive any voice mail messages! Cortelco no longer
supports this system and hasn't been much help! They implied the problem is with the SMDR-E box. I found another web add. with a manual for an Atlas 128 system and it appears to be the same as my manual word-for-word!
Is the SMDR-E unit the problem and would this unit work for me???
I appreciate any help!!!
Thanks, Brian

I gave up on ITT since their politics hurts the technician. I beleive their is a company somewhere down south called King Technologies that supports all Cortelco stuff. I may be wrong but if you look through telecom gear or the mart you may find help....

I have only seen obe of these systems. SMDR ususlly stands for system mass detail recording. It is where you hook a PC or printer to for reports. I think you are thinking of SMDI, which is a seriel port used to connect a PC to phone system.

Is your voicemail hooked up using analoge ports?

Does it have a seriel hookup betwwen the voicemail and the phone system?

I would check all your connections between the two and eliminate al working devices.

Good Luck!!

The ITT Odessey is the same as an Atlas 128 by Key System US. It uses SMDI to intergrate V mail, and they only have 1 RS232 port.
If the SMDI box is out the vm wont work right.
There is no DTMF signaling.

Also you did not say what part of the VM is not working. Does it answer if you call it via intercom? Does it accept std commands?
If tis working otherwise but not intergrated properly its the SMDR box, other wise you have other issues.

Thanks for the help!!!

From a "Key Phone", I can dial the VPS system and the "Auto Attendant" will pick up and start giving you options. It will no longer recognize any key Phone inputs, so I cannot even get into the mail box, just keeps repeating options. From a "Single Line Phone", I can dial the VPS and the "Auto Attendant" WILL recognize inputs and will allow me into the mail box(No one can leave messages though so always empty). From an outside line, the the Auto Attendant will answer and ring the extension requested, when unanswered, it won't put you through to the mailbox, Auto ateddant will come back on!

I appreciate any response!!!
Thanks in advance. Brian

SMDI is not working. Unplug the SMDR box, let it sit a few min then plug back in.
Check all cables.

Thanks for the input! I sent the SMDR to King Technologies for repair. Their head Tech seemed very knowledgeable with this system. Will have to wait till I get this back to see if that was the problem for sure!! Thanks again!!!
